To The Pointe Examination Code of Conduct for parents and students

Please note that To The Pointe dance studio holds their annual exams in May and October. Please keep this in mind when booking holidays and long weekends in future.

  1. No child will be entered into the exam session without the exam and pianist fee paid in full and the slip confirming that the code of conduct has been read, understood, signed and returned to the studio.
  2. In order for your child to participate in the examinations, they will need to consistently attend two classes per week for junior exams (Pre-Primary – Grade 5) and three classes per week for senior exams (Intermediate Foundation – Advanced 2). If your child has to miss a class, they are required to catch up the lesson before the following class by checking with the other dancers on what was missed.
  3. If your child is ill and not contagious or if they are injured and are unable to dance, they will be required to attend and watch their lesson.
  4. If your child has been booked off by a medical professional and is not able to watch their class, a doctor’s letter is required.
  5. Attendance of all pianist rehearsals and the mock exam are Any child who misses these rehearsals will only be allowed to take a Class Award and not the examination.
  6. Class Awards: While the same work is done for the Class Award as the examination, it is an essentially a participation award. The child demonstrates their work to an examiner in a class setting run by one of the teachers. They neither pass nor fail, but do receive a certification of participation as well as a report from the examiner. If this report is not up to To the Pointe standards, your child will be required to stay back, repeat the syllabus and take the examination the following year.
  7. Entry into the examinations and class awards are at the discretion of the principal of To the Pointe and teachers.
  8. Examination kit are the responsibly of the parent to purchase. If any of To the Pointe “back up” kit has to be used by a child on the day of the exam (waist elastics, hair pins, grips and nets, gel, hairspray etc.), a hiring fee of R50.00 will be payable before the child enters the examination studio.
  9. Results of the examinations are given by the Royal Academy of Dance or Association of International Dance Teachers examiner and not the principal and teachers of To the Pointe. The results of the examinations are final and the RAD and AIDT will not enter into any discussion regarding them.
  10. Ballet and modern exams are not marked in the same method as school exams. A mark of 60% for a ballet is considered ‘good’ and ‘secure’. Parents should not expect their children to receive a Distinction result as a matter of course.

This serves to confirm that I, ……………………………………………….parent of…………………………………………., have read and understood the code of conduct regarding examinations at To the Pointe Dance Studio and agree that final decisions regarding examinations and class awards are the responsibility of the principal and teachers.

I further understand that in order for To the Pointe to continue its high level of training in line with the criteria set out by the Royal Academy of Dance and Association of International Dance Teachers, my child may have to take a Class Award if I cannot commit to the regulations set out by the To the Pointe examination code of conduct.
